If you have watched many western movies you have seen parts of Monument Valley. It was a staple of movies directed by John Ford; there is even a point named after him. So you will recognize some of the iconic formations in this image gallery. But be ready to be surprised also as the valley has many formations that have never made it into a movie...yet. Contrary to widely held assumptions, this is not a National Park. Rather, it is a Navajo Nation Park. The huge reservation stretches from Monument Valley on the east to Antelope Canyon on the west. Both Utah and Arizona claim the park and there is good reason for the confusion. You enter from Utah and quickly move into Arizona for much of the journey. However, parts of what you may see to the north are in Utah.
