Before daybreak we went with our Navajo guide to photograph the sunrise and then to the base of the totems for first light. I loved how the red sand dune drifts in the foreground lead into the image. While the red rock "totems" are visible from a distance elsewhere, we were in an area not accessible to tourists without a guide.
