Don't you feel something special when you can see multiple rays of sunshine piercing through a cloud cover? Some people call these God Beams and for obvious reasons. The North Shore of Kauai is the wet, lush side of the island. In the late afternoon sometimes the clouds gather over Hanalei Bay and when the sun breaks through it can create a wonderful series of light beams shining over the town, the bay, and the taro fields.
It had been a rainy day on the north shore in the Princeville and Hanalei area. But late in the afternoon the clouds began to break enough for the sun to shine through. Hawaiians often refer to the rain as a blessing--"No rain, no rainbows!" they say. On the north shore they add, "No rain, no flowers." It is a positive view that even tourists who love the north shore come to embrace. Don't get me wrong, there is plenty of sunshine too, but the rain provides the abundance that makes the North Shore of Kauai special. After one large rain, 13 waterfalls opened up on the sides of the mountain, instead of the usual 2-3.
When I saw these beams covering the mountains around Hanalei I could not help but see it as a blessing. So in our home, this image bestows that blessing on all who see it. I find it calming, re-assuring, and uplifting. Where in your life do you want to add a visual blessing for the day?
