St Lucia is a lush, mountainous, volcanic island with amazing scenery, great snorkeling and diving, and beautiful people. No wonder it is a favorite spot for weddings, honeymoons, and of course--vacations! It has beaches, a rain forest and did I mention incredible scenery? It is rather deep in the West Indies with its closest Caribbean neighbors being St Vincent, Martinique and Barbados. Those who have been want art to remember it by. Those who have not yet been want art to feed their dreams.
St Lucia also has an interesting history. The French named the island and took control of it in 1660 and their influence is everywhere from the names of cities and beaches to the patois spoken by the locals . From 1663 to 1814 control of the island passed back and forth between France and Britain until the British took final control in 1814. The British influence is most evident in the government structure. St Lucia gained independence in 1979 but maintains strong ties with Britain.
